HOMOEOPATHIC  FLU  REMEDIES

With flu there is aching in the bones and more fever than a cold.  A heaviness of the body which is far more deeply seated.  Usually a person can continue to work with a cold, although it is advisable to have a day off if possible, but with a true case of flu, even a housewife needs to rest.

Aconite

Sudden onset, especially if following exposure to cold dry weather, with bitter winds.  Illness sets in within a few hours of exposure to cold.

Baptisia

Rapid onset.  Sinks rapidly into a ‘stupid’ state.  Dull red face.  Drugged besotted appearance.  High temperature.  Comatose.  Drops asleep while answering.  Gastric flu - sudden attacks of violent diarrhoea and vomit.  Great prostration.  Curious symptom - dissociation of parts, scattered, can’t get himself together.  Eyelids heavy.  Soreness of eyeballs.

Bryonia

White tongue.  Thirst for much cold fluid.  Wants to lie quiet and still and be let alone.  Headaches and pain > pressure < movement.  Pain in head from coughing.  Irritable.  In delirium talks of daily business.  Wants to go home even if already there.

Cadmium Sulphate

Dr. Gyon Richards used Cadmium Sulph for flu.  He maintained it killed the flu virus.  Suggested potency CM for adults, 200C for children and elderly patients.  5 drops or 3 pillules two hourly for 5 or 6 doses.  Other practitioners have used this remedy very successfully, although they never gave more than 4 doses at 4 hourly intervals (due to the high potency).  It should only be used for genuine flu when the patient is absolutely prostrate and feels they are going to die.

Eupatorium

Intense aching limbs and back, as if bones were broken.  Dare not move for pain.  Aching in all bones with soreness of flesh.  Bursting headache, dare not move for pain.  Shivering.  Chills in back.  Chills begin 7-9 a.m.  Eyeballs sore.  May be vomiting of bile.

Gelsemium

This is one of the most frequently prescribed flu remedies.  Heaviness and tiredness of body and limbs.  Head heavy.  Eyelids heavy.  Limbs heavy.  Colds and fevers of mild winters (opp. Aconite).  Chills in back.  Chills and heat chase one another.  Bursting headache, from neck over head to eyes and forehead, relieved by copious urination.  No thirst.  Hot, heavy, flushed, besotted looking, dusky hue of face.  Much muscular soreness.  Great prostration.

Pyrogen

Violent pulsations and intense restlessness.  The major feature of this remedy is the disturbed ratio between pulse and temperature i.e. high temperature with slow pulse or low temperature with high pulse rate.  Chilliness no fir can warm.  Creeping chills in back.  Thumping heart.  Bursting headache with intense restlessness.  Feels beaten, bruised.  Better beginning to move - has to keep on moving, rocking, wriggling, for momentary relief.  Copious urination of clear water which doesn’t relieve.

Rhus Tox

Illness from cold damp weather.  Stiff, lame feeling passes off with movement, till he becomes weak and must rest.  Then restlessness and unease drive him to move again. Intense fever, thirst, great prostration.  Weeps without knowing why.  Severe aching in bones.  A mental symptom of Rhus is fear of poison.
